Demonstrations against the British attitude regarding Cyprus union with Greece have been held in many cities. More than 150, 000 people gathered in Constitution Square, Athens when Archbishop Spyridon delivered a stormy speech - and demonstrators tried to storm the British Embassy. More than 2000 Cypriots and Greeks marched through London to the Colonial Office where they handed in demands that their countries should unite. They were led by six girls in national costume bearing the letters Enosis - Union of Cyprus and Greece.
