Demonstration of unsinkable swimsuit, London
Jun. 06, 1954 - Jean Demonstrates the Unsinkable Swimsuit': A demonstration was held yesterday at St George's Swimming Bath, Buckingham Palace Road, London, worn by 24 year old Jean Manchester of Morecambe. She was thrown into the water pushed off the edge tied into a sack and they even tried tying a brick to her and pushing her into the water but her swimsuit would not let her sink. The swimsuit is made by Mark Shaw of Morecame who invented it 18 months ago and as the reaction in this country was rather slow he took it to America and Canada where it is now being used in water treatment of polio cases. The secret of the floating is the panels in front of the suit of breathing fabric that trap the air and guarantee to surface the wearer in four seconds.
