Demonstration of Vickers VA-1 Hovercraft, Southampton

Oct. 10, 1961 - Public demonstration of Vickers first hovercraft : After a year's development work the Vickers group hope to have what will be the world's commercial prototype of hovercraft operational by early spring next year. it will be a 10-ton vehicle, for about two tons of freight. The Va-3, as the project is called, will be an improvement and an enlargement on the group's first hovercraft, the VA-1, which was publicly demonstrated at Southampton for the first time this week.
