May 05, 1946 - Rail Strike Grips United States: The entire railroad-system on the United States was brought to a standstill May 5 P.M. On May 25rd, 1946, when the federal government in Washington gas inable arrange a settlement between the striking unions and the railroad owner. Only hospital, milk and troop trained were running until the strike was called off. Photo Shows Porters with nothing to do, a sitting in grand central station in New York. Some 200, 000 people pass through the terminal during an average bay
