Oct. 10, 1953 - Scene Scene in Regent street London. Strike of Petrol tanker drivers clear traffic off roads: Many of London's main thoroughfares were showing unmistakable signs - traffic scarcity owing to the continued strike of Petrol Tanker Drivers. It is estimated that practically the whole of London will be virtuallya at a standstill by Monday - if the strike is not settled before them. Troops are standing-by ready to take over driving the tankers in order to keep essential services in action as soon as the Government issued the order.
