Jan. 16, 1959 - Tempers Flare Up Between Rival Soccer Teams During A Greek Championship Football Match In Athens: There was nearly a soccer riot as tempers flared up between two rival Greek football teams, Olympiakos and Panathiniakos during a championship match held in Athen's stadium. The match ended with minor clashes between players from the two teams, but this ended abruptly when a strong police force invaded the pitch broke up the fighting and thus adverted trouble from the spectators.
