Demonstrations

Jan. 01, 1959 - Miner Demonstrates Over The Closing of Thirty Six Pits. The struggle over the 36 doomed pits will be re-opened in London today, within the National Union of Mineworkers executive. They will urge the union to try to delay the closure of the pits until jobs for all sacked men are assured. This morning, delegates from miners lodges assembled outside their National Headquarters in Westminster Bridge Road to plead with their national executive to act to stop 13, 000 miners becoming redundant.
