Demonstrations

May 22, 1961 - New Clashes At The Holy Loch: There were more incidents at Holy Loch to-day as the remaining anti-polaris demonstrators continued to make their protests. Three American officers, were involved in one incident with the demonstrators as the officers tried to board Proteus. The officer arrived in a car at Ardadam Pier, the embarkation point for their ship, to find 60 people on a sit-down vigil outside the locked pier gates. The officer, had to tramp over shoulders, legs and feet, amid cries of pain, to get to the gates. The protectors offered no other resistance. Police had to drag some demonstrators away by force at one stage to allow, other American sailors to get through. Photo shows He flies through the air one of the demonstrators is forceably throw aside by police, to allow the American sailors to pass today
