Aug. 08, 1960 - Rent Rebel Man Barricades His Flat Against The Bailiffs: Let the battle commence - that defiant challenge was flung down from a block of flats in Leighton Road, Kentish Town, yesterday, where rent rebel Don Cook site barricaded-in, waiting for the bailiffs to arrive. He has enough provisions for a long siege, and from a window a signal rocket pokes out. If the bailiffs arrives, it will shoot skywards and bring 2, 000 other rebellious tenants to his aid. The deadline was midnight last night, when a court order says that Don must quit his council flat. He has refused to pay the double rent which the St. Pancras council is demanding from many tenants. Photo shows Don Cook sits on the coping above the balcony of his flat which is encircled with barbed-wire
