Sep. 08, 1960 - Girl Strikers On Picket Duty. 18-year old Linda James, of the Transport and General Workers Union, is London's prettiest shop steward, and strike leader of 12 girl machinists from a metal factory in Kennington, London, who walked out on Tuesday after a demand for a 42-hour week had been refused. This morning the girls were on picket duty near the factory. Photo Shows: The girls seen removing a barricade of boxes which they had put up at the gates of the factory, after being instructed by the police to take it down
