Nov. 11, 1970 - Organised Lobby Of The House Of Lords: What is believed to be the first organised lobby of the House of lords took place today when Lord Gifford, the Labour peer introduced his bill to amend the Visiting Forces Act 1952 to give united States deserters from bases outside this country rights of asylum in britain. Over a dozen of organisations, including War Resisters international, the union of American Exiles in Britain, Christian Aid, etc-were taking part. Among those present was Mrs. Mary Haygood, the English wife of a young American serviceman who was arrested by London police and sent back to America to face charges of desertion. photo shows.
