Nov. 11, 1974 - Sugar Plant Blockade': Workers at a London refinery which handles more than a third of the sugar consumed in Britain yesterday began a two-week blockade of the plant. With sugar already scare in many shops, Tate and Lyle, owners of the refinery at Silvertown, said the blockade would have a substantial impact'. The workers are continuing to produce and pack sugar but are refusing to let it leave the refinery. They fear they 9, 000 jobs will be at risk if the Common Market does not permit Britain to continue importing unrefined sugar from Commonwealth Countries.
