Jun. 06, 1976 - 100 People Die And More Than 1, 000 Injured In South Africa's Worst Riots In Soweto: The worst outbreak of civil unrest in South Africa has claimed the lives of 100 people, and more than 1, 000 have been injured in rioting at Soweto, the African township outside Johannesburg. The rioting began during a march by black students protesting against the use of Afrikaans in lessons. Police opened fire and cars and building were act on fire.
