Demonstrations

Jul. 07, 1990 - The Devil's Wrath: A huge image of the devil mounted over the entrance to the Gotthard-tunnel met the many drivers travelling South, July 14. Those stuck in the heavy traffic were also given a leaflet by Greenpeace activists that describes in detail the ecological damage caused by individual transport. The Gotthard-route - highly frequented all year through - usually gets jammed during vacation time. With the banner over the tunnel Greenpeace indicated that the traffic-plagued people living along the Gotthard-route might one day do as the devil in the old times: Cheated of a prize promised by farmers near the Gotthard the devil smacked a heavy stone onto a newly built bridge. Luckily for the farmers the devil missed - for the bridge secured the trade route to the South
