Demonstrations
Jun. 06, 1991 - Stop Transit Terror: Greenpeace activitists were blocking up the highway at the St. Gotthard pass in central Switzerland, June 17, to protest against the transit traffic through Switzerland. The demonstraters built a chain in front of the symbolic wall at the northern tunnel entrance. The action was coordinated with a blockade at the Brenner pass in Austria. Environment activists of both countries fight against increasing traffic mainly caused by heavy trucks. The Swiss government, which up to now prohibited the passage of 40-tons-transports through Swiss territory, is now treating about a compromise with the European Community
