Demonstrators at nuclear building site, Germany
Mar. 27 Police clear occupied building site of Nuclear Power Plant in Northern Germany. During a demonstration of about 8000 persons against the building of a nuclear power plant near Brokdorf (North Germany), the blocked and heavily guarded site was occupied by some 1000 demonstrators. They had cut the barbed wire and torn down the wire netting fence. At the site they built up tents and made fires while the police were watching. At night the building site was cleared by the police using teargas, water guns, dogs and truncheons. Several demonstrators were arrested. The building site had been blocked off by surprise in the early morning of October 26th and was heavily guarded by both police and members of a private security company.
