Denis Healey at Labour Party conference, Blackpool
Oct. 10, 1976 - Chancellor Healey Wins Labour Backing For The Defence Of Sterling: Mr. Denis Healey, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, faced left-wing critics at the Labour Party annual conference in Blackpool yesterday with a blunt defence of the Government's economic strategy and measures taken this week to support the pound. After he had out-shouted the jeers of the Left-wing, the Chancellor, who had flown to Blackpool to make an impassioned demand to the party for loyalty in his defence of sterling, won the majority support.
