Jan. 01, 1965 - £700, 000 Painting Smuggled From Museum For Return To Holland. The £700, 000 painting The Letter - by Vermeer - part of the multi-million pound collection of Dutch art which has been on loan in London - is now on its way back to Holland. To deceive art thieves - Dutch Security men announced that the painting was being flown to Holland from London Airport - but instead of going to the airport it was taken to Liverpool Street Station - then by train to the Hook of Holland - ferry.
