Aug. 08, 1953 - Prof. Piccard Makes First Descent In His Bathysphere'.: Professor Piccard, the Swiss-Belgium physicist, accompanied by his son Jacques, when he recently made his first descent into the sea at Castellamara de Stabia, near Naples, in his newly designed Bathysphere, in which he hopes to reach a depth of 13, 000 feet, near the island of Ponsa tp explore and photograph the sea bottom.
