Sep. 09, 1953 - Prof. Piccard Goes Under the Sea to a Depth of 5, 450 Feet.: Professor Piccard, the Swiss physicist, accompanied by his son Jacques, recently made his first deep-sea dive in his bathysphere Triests, and succeeded in reaching a depth of 1, 052 meters, (3, 450 feet). The point of descents was a few miles south of Capri, the bathysphere having been towed there during the night from its base at Castellanmare di Stabia.
