Apr. 12, 1955 - Dr. Roger Bannister receives helms trophy at Variety club luncheon.: At a luncheon of the Variety Club of Great Britain at the Savoy Hotel, London today, Dr. Roger Bannister received the Helms Trophy awarded him by the Helms Foundation of America, who named him Europes Foremost Amateur Athlete of 1954 for his under four minute miles at Oxford (3 min 59.4secs.) and at the Vancouver British Empire Games (3 mins. 58.8 secs.) The presentation was made by Harold Abrahams, honorary treasurer of the British Amateur Athletic Board and Vice-President of the Amateur Athletic Association.
