Nov. 11, 1957 - Dr. Alan Nunn May - Would Be Space Volunteer. British Scientist - He Gave Secrets To Russia: Dr. Alain Nunn May the British scientist who was jailed for ten years in 1945 for giving British atom secrets to Russia - is now 46 and lives in Cambridge. He dismissed any suggestion that he helped to put Russia ahead in the race into space. Dr. May said I would have gladly have gone up in the Sputnik in place of the dog - I would have done it for science - and I really would have enjoyed it'. He said he could see nothing wrong in the Russians using animals in Sputniks. He also said Remember - though Russia leads in space, Britain has the lead in nuclear energy'.
