Aug. 08, 1957 - The doctor Invites Measles for His Daughter and Catches Shingles Himself. Dr. Charles Stevens Director of the National spastic Society recently made it known that he wanted his daughters to catch German Measles, because it was not a serious illness, and once they had it they could not have it again and it would help to ensure that any children of their own in later years would be born healthy. He said that women who caught German Measles when expecting babies ran a very great risk of giving birth to spastic children. The Doctor invited a little girl with German Measles to his home, in the hope that his daughters would catch the complaint. After three weeks of waiting all the girls have escaped the infection and are out of quarantine, but the doctor himself is ill, he is suffering from Shingles, askin complaint.
