Feb. 26 A solution to the nation's growing refuse-disposal problem based on the use of special strains of waste digesting microbes to convert trash into protein rich animal fodder has been proposed by Dr. W. Dexter Bellamy, a biochemist at the General Electric Research and Development Center. He has identified bacteria that can digest cellulose and related chemical compounds which together account for most of the solid wastes produced by American cities and transform them into microbial protein. He is operating an auto analyzer, an instrument that enables him to measure the amounts of protein produced by the pure strains of bacteria that he has isolated
