Feb. 26 Baseball bats by radar - Radar has uncovered a new two-billion-board-foot U.S. hardwood resource. The first wood products to be made are baseball bats of tanoak which is cured in a microwave kiln heated by 30, 000-watt klystron radar tubes. The process was developed by Varian Associates, Palo Alto (Calif.) scientific firm. Here a workman at Tanoak Industries Harbor, Oregon, mill loads the radar kiln with rough billets which will become Oregon Slammers
