Feb. 26 Kathy Burns, General Electric's Lady of Light, admires new 400-watt Lucalox lamp. The world's most efficient light source for general illumination, the high-pressure sodium discharge lamp has been redesigned to increase lamp life to 8, 000 hours, improve efficiency to 110 lumens (units of light) per watt, the boost lumen maintenance to 88 per cent of initial output at 8, 000 hours. These improvements result in the new 400-watt Lucalox lamp delivering 42 percent more light over its lifetime than earlier designs. Introduced by General Electric in 1965, the Lucolax lamp already is being widely used for lighting streets, highways, industrial plants, building exteriors, shopping centers, parking lots, service stations, sports and other indoor and outdoor applications
