Feb. 29 New Link to Europe: The white line represents the route of TAT-5, the fifth transatlantic telephone cable to Europe. More than two years in completion, TAT-5 has made possible lower cost service between the United States and much of Europe and the British Isles. In laying the cable, the Belly System's Long Lines Department avoided such deep sea hazards as mountains, earthquakes sites and dangerous currents
