Mar. 22 What's going On Here??? Miss Eileen Avery, a secretary at the Ellis Research and Testing Laboratories in Albury, near Guildford, Surrey, assists in the testing of a crash helmet for a motor-cyclist by having an 8lb. steel ball dropped on the helmet form a horizontal electro-magnet incorporated in a special machine. The helmets are heated, soaked, cooled and assaulted by a piece of steel with sharp point, and must not dent, fracture or be pierced to a depth of more than 3/8 in. to be passed. No part of the harness, etc, should break under the test
