Mar. 22 Prof. George A. Van Biesbroeck, the noted astronomer, works on the precision measuring engine at the Yale University Observatory on a porject that may verify one of Einstein's theories. in 1916 Einstein deduced that stars are not always where they seem to be because the sun's gravitational pull would bend starlight on its way to earth. Many observations by astronomers in the past have not been satisfactory in checking Einstein's theory, so Prof. Van Biesbroeck, a member of the Yerkes Observatory at the University of Chicago, took photographs of an eclipse of the sun in North Africa last winter. He brought the glass plates to Yale to measure star position on the special engine (shown above) the largest of its type in the century. His computations are expected to be completed in a few weeks
