A powerful solar radiation simulator is being added to the space thermal vacuum chamber at the Martin Marietta Corporation space complex near Denver, Colorado. This artist rendering depicts the unit 19-arc lamps, with 20, 000 watts each, (lower left) casting a beam of light into the chamber via a 23-foot diameter mirror attached to the lid. Simulating the rigors of space in the chamber, critical tests will be performed on advanced spacecrafts, components and systems destined for space exploration
