A radiometer for home use was constructed by engineer Johannes Simon of Frankfurt, Germany. The little plastic container houses a control element which, by static electricity, is held in a certain position under influence of radiation, the element comes into action and swirls until the sign on it shows to the magnetic north. The time needed for this action gives information about the strength of the radiation. Our photo shows Johannes Simon and (inset) his radiometer. Keystone Photo 17.10.62
