Dec. 13, 1960 - Miss Michelle Deschamps won the 1960 Leopold Starkmann, A Visa for Hope Award, which is given to any man or woman who successfully made something of themselves despite having been on their own since 15 years of age. Deschamps mother died of tuburculosis, leaving Deschamps on her own at a young age. Despite her situation, Deschamps put herself through school and is a nurse today. Starkmann attended the award ceremony
