May 05, 1964 - William Hopes for a New Life: On Monday at the Killingbeck Hospital at Leeds, 51 year old William Marshall will be undergoing a delicate operation to have an artificial valve substituted for the faulty one in his heart that has made him a semi invalid for the past five years. The operation which will about six hours, is one that has only been performed a few times in the world, and is thought to be the first of it's kind carried out in Britain. As stored plasma blood would be unsuitable for such a delicate operation, a team of 24 devoted people will be in attendance at the operation to give instant blood to William to carry him through the operation.
