Jun. 06, 1964 - Press visit to Culham Laboratory.: Culham Laboratory is the U.K.A.E.A. Centre for plasma physics and fusion research - the study of the state of matter at temperatures of up to hundreds of millions of degrees Centigrade, and the problems involved. The ultimate aim is to apply this research to combining the nuclei of Deuterium (heavy Hydorgen) of which there is an almost unlimited supply in the sea, to produce a source of power. Photo shows Assistant Experimental Officer I.E. Pollard takes results from an experiment in cyropumping. This involves holding quantities of a gas, in this case Hydrogen, in a frozen solid state at about 260 deg C. in a very high state of vacuum
