May 05, 1968 - Britain's Heart Donor: Britain's first heart transplant operation was carried out successfully last friday at the National Heart Hospital in London. The patient was 45 year old man named Frederick West and the donor was a 26 year old Irishman, Patrick Ryan, who died after a fall on a building site in London.
