Feb. 02, 1968 - A highly sensitive and easily reproducible technique for determining the relative flammabilities of plastics and synthetic fabrics has been developed by two scientists at the General Electric Research and Development Center. Developed by Drs. Charles P. Fenimore ( left ) and Frederick J. Martin, the new technique utilizes a simple, compact apparatus in which samples are burned in a candle-like manner in combinations of selected gases to determine the minimum oxygen concentration that will support burning. The new testing method is expected to be valuable for plastics and textile manufacturers, chemists, and chemical engineers in evaluating the flammabilities of products and in the scientific study of combustion
