Feb. 02, 1972 - NEW TYPE OF RADIOACTIVITY DETECTOR: Czechoslovak specialists received with great interest and appreciation the new detector of radioactivity, developed and designed by the radiobiological department of the Institute of Experimental Botany of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in Prague. It is used for detection of pollution of the environment, caused by low-energetical beta radiators. The new apparatus is especially welcomed in radiobiological laboratories, where the pollution of work areas and aids by these radiators, not ascertainable by the usual detectors, causes wrong conclusions to be drawn in experiments with radioactive compounds. The new highly sensitive detector of radioactivity works with extreme accuracy and independently on net electric current, because it has its own built-in batteries. It is easily transportable, can be used even under field conditions, and was produced solely from Czechoslovak made components. Author of the new detector of radioactivity Dr. Frantisek Kysela (left) and head technician Otto Havlicek, testing the new apparatus on a pollution model.
