Jul. 03, 1975 - The 100th birthday of German surgeon Ferdinand Sauerbruch. One hundred years ago on July 3, 1875, surgeon Ferdinand Sauerbruch was born in Bremen. He discovered several significant new operations methods: for instance the pressure-difference method, which prevents the collapsing of lungs when the chest cavity is opened by reducing/increasing pressure. Later, he came up with the amputation-stump channeling Sauerbruch Arm, through which the power of the muscle stumps can be transferred through the prosthesis, plus the so-called Umkipp-Plastik for the lower leg with amputation of the femur. The main scientific works of the substantial surgeon are Techniques of Thorax Surgery.'(1911 - together with E.D. Schumacher) and The voluntary, movable, artistic hand (1919-1923). Additionally, from 1938 Ferdinand Sauerbruch was the publisher of the medicine magazine New German Surgery. He died on July 2, 1951 in Berlin
