Jul. 07, 1972 - Telstar as it was tested before launch: The Telstar communications satellite is seen tested at the Bell Telephone Laboratories before it was sent to Cap Canaveral from where it was launched yesterday. The 170 pound capsule has 3500 sun cells operating the microwave - relais and the other electronic equipment. Intercontinental TV broadcast will be relayed by Telstar in the next future after tests have proved successful. Launch of the Telstar costed 3 million dollars
