Jan. 01, 1974 - 100th Anniversary of physicist Johann Philipp Reis death The famous physicist Johann Philipp Reis, born on January 7th, 1834 in Gelnhausen, was the inventor of the first telephone which he presented for the first time on Oct. 26, 1861 to the public at a meeting of the Union of Physicists in Frankfurt/M. The scientist who was originally a merchant and then a teacher at a private school before becoming a physicist, died on January 14th, 1874 in Friedrichasdorf/Homburg
