May 05, 1980 - Trace amount of organic compounds weighing as little as a few billionths of a gram have been automatically identified by a sophisticated analytical system invented at the General Electric Research and Development Center, Schenectady, N.Y. the GE system - which involves two gas chromatographs (at right), a mass spectrometer, and smart electronics - provides analytical chemists with an important new tool for pinpointing infinitesimal amounts of organic solids, liquids, and gases in samples.
