Dec. 10, 1976 - 80th Anniversary of the death of Alfred Nobel Eighty years ago, on December 10th 1869, the Swedish analytical chemist and inventor Alfred Nobel (picture) died in San Remo (Italy). Nobel had disposed by will, that the largest part of his means (about 31 millions Swedish crowns) had to be used for the formation of the Nobel Foundation. Every year, the interest of this money is shared in five equal parts which are for the benefit of those who have rendered mankind the best service in the past year. There are Nobel Prizes for medicine, literature, chemistry, physics, and for peace. The awards (except the Peace prize, which is handed over in Oslo) are presented on the tenth of December in Stockholm every year. Alfred Nobel invented the dynamite in 1867; he made other inventions as well of which the explosive gelatin (1877) was of outstanding significance. He became 63 years old
