Jun. 06, 1959 - Rabbits were used in a biomedical project to investigate the hazard of burns to retinal tissues of the eye from nuclear bursts, during the Teak and Orange high altitude nuclear detonations which took place at Johnston Island in the Pacific July-August 1958. An officer from the US Air Force School of Aviation Med examines one of the rabbits used in the experiments. All animals were handled in accordance with the rules of the American Med association
