Nov. 11, 1979 - 5, 000 Marchers back sacked Derek Robinson in demonstration at Birmingham yesterday: A demonstration in Birmingham yesterday led by Mr Derek Robinson, the Communist shop steward dismissed by British Leyland, was supported by about 3, 000 marchers. Mr Robinson was sacked a week ago from his job as a tool fitter at the Longbridge plant in Birmingham, Leyland's biggest works, after putting his name to a 16 page booklet urging workers to stage sit-ins and to occupy Leyland plants. The Chairman of British Leyland, Sir Michael Edwardes, has refused to reinstate Mr Robinson even under the threat of a close down of all British Leyland plants.
