Dietrich Stobbe, German politician, Mayor of West Berlin
January 15th. 1981 - SENATE CRISES IN WEST BERLIN - The Governing Mayor of West Berlin, Dietrich Stobbe (our picture), was constrained to the retirement with a grievous, very surprising voting defeat in the Chamber of Deputies. Together with Stobbe also all senators retire from their post. With his retirement Stobbe drew his political conclusions from the breakdown of his rough draft for the reshuffle of the senate, which became necessary because of an architectural scandal; at the elections however, the four SPD-Candidates were defeated. As Stobbe's successor the SPD sent the West German Minister of Justice Dr Hans-Jochen Vogel, the former Chief Mayor of Munich, into the running, But in no case is Vogel's election for the Governing Mayor of Berlin sure. On January 22nd the voting will take place in the Chamber of Deputies, and for a success, Dr. Vogel needs the votes of the coalition partner FDP, which have been denied to Dietrich Stobbe
