Mar. 03, 1973 - 70th Birthday of Helmut Kaeutner: On March 25th, one of the most prominent German film- and stage-directors can enjoy thoroughly his birthday, for he reaches the age of 70 years Helmut Kaeutner. Born in Dusseldorf, he studied German philosophy, psychology and history of Art, was he found of a cabaret and then he went to the a actor and director. To the film-branch he first name as an author; 1939 he gave his debut as film-director. Kaeutner made films of very different characters-dramas, comedies, cabaret-films and thriller. His best known films: Under the bridges (1944), In these days (1947), The general of the devil (1955), The captain of Koepenick (1956), Ride on a tiger ( 1958), Schinderhannes (1958), The house in Montevideo (1963), and The fire-tongs-bowl (1970). Helmut Kaeutner was awarded e.g. with the price of Art of the town Berlin 1956, the Adolf-Grimm-Price in gold 4968 and the Great Federal Distinguished Service Cross 1973
