Docker walks across River Thames at Chelsea, London

Jul. 07, 1951 - Docker Walks Across The River Thames At Chelsea: Mr Joe Simms, age 54, a Southampton dock worker, walked across the River Thames at Chelsea this evening, carrying 20-year-old Margaret Cooper, of the Windmill Theatre. With only his head showing above the water he crossed the river by moving his feet with slow cycle action, which he calls Hydro-ambulation'. Mr Simms crossed the river from the same place three years ago in 17 minutes, but he was not carrying anyone then. Photo shows Mr Joe Simms carrying Margaret Cooper in his arms as he walks across the River Thames this evening
