: Dom Mintoff, new Prime Minister of Malta

Dom Mintoff, new Prime Minister of Malta

Jun. 06, 1971 - New Premier of Malta Sacks Governor: Sir Maurice Dorman, 58, resigned yesterday as Governor-General of Malta. This is one of the latest consequences of the one-seat electoral victory by Mr. Dom Mintoff, the Labour Prime Minister, who has said he will scrap the defence and aid treaty with Britain. Before the election he gave a warning that the Governor-General should be a Maltese. In the first few days of his new administration Mr. Mintoff had already dismissed five of the six diplomats who served abroad for Dr. Borg Olivier, the ousted Nationalist Prime Minister.
