Donald Campbell's Bluebird on Ullswater, trial run
Feb. 02, 1955 - Bluebird Ship Take On Water During Trials: Donald Campbell, son of speed-king Sir Malcolm Campbell, took the 25, 000 turbo-jet hydroplane Bluebird on its first test run at Ullswater yesterday. but soon after the trial started Mr Campbell radioed back to shore that water was entering the craft and the test was abandoned. No serious damage was done and it will not hold up an attempt on the world water speed record.
