Oct. 10, 1955 - Augustus John to paint Dr. Albert Schweitzer; Two famous men met this morning in a small room behind a Westminster cafe. Augustus John, the famous artist, called on Dr. Albert Schweitzer, the 80 year old missionary, surgeon and musician, to paint his portrait. Yesterday at Buckingham Palace, the Queen investor Dr. Schweitzer, with the insignia of the Order of Merit. Photo Shows Augustus John (right) makes his first sketch of Dr. Schweitzer when they met this morning
